Dental Sealants
Overview
Sealants are an easy, secure procedure to protect from cavities and decay beyond brushing home oral care. These are a thin, flexible material that can be put on the top of your back teeth (molars and premolars). Once they’re placed, sealants block bacteria, plaque, tartar, and food particles to further prevent several dental issues, including cavities. They may stay on for a long time if properly cared for with a good oral hygiene routine at home. Sealants can not only increase the health of your mouth and lower the risk of dental cavities, but they may also save you from expensive treatments at your annual dental examinations at Brian Wong D.D.S. P.A. (formerly Stonebriar Dental). Talk to one of our board-certified dentists at your dental examination in our Frisco, TX office to help you decide if dental sealants are needed for your family.
Best Sealant Candidates
The best candidates for sealants are patients who are prone to developing oral diseases or cavities. In many cases, they are suggested for children and some teens who may not have a good oral hygiene routine. Dental sealant application is a simple, fast treatment that usually doesn’t need sedation or anesthesia, which makes it a great procedure for all patients.
What to Expect
In your consult, one of our trained dentists will first examine your teeth to decide if dental sealants are a good treatment for you. Before the application, we will clean and polish to remove bacteria, plaque, and tartar. Next, they will use a brush to apply to sealant and set the material using a light. After the application is set, they will check that your dental sealant has settled into the correct position.
Follow-Up
After your appointment, you will be free to resume your normal activities. It’s important for you to develop a good oral care plan, including brushing your teeth two times each day, flossing, and mouthwash. You also need to try to avoid putting too much force on your back teeth or eating foods that are sticky. With ideal care, dental sealants may last for many years, but at your annual dental examination at Brian Wong D.D.S. P.A., our dentists will decide if your sealants should be applied again.
Insurance Coverage
Dental sealants are a preventative treatment and many dental insurances pay for part of the cost in patients under a certain age. Coverage can vary, particularly in adults, so a team member will figure out your coverage by talking to your insurance company and then letting your know your personal cost. Brian Wong D.D.S. P.A. accepts several methods of payment and we can assist you with finding low-interest financing for medical treatments.
Sealants Protect and Prevent
You or your child may benefit from sealants to protect your dental health. Sealants are a great treatment to avoid more extensive procedures such as fillings and crowns. A quick and easy procedure, dental sealants can provide you and your family with easier dental exams and improved general health.
